showers, colonies of bacteria lurking in the" onions "
ROME (14 September) - How often have you thought, especially in the hotel for a shower that was more hygienic than relaxing with a hot bath? Now American researchers have shown that the onion of the shower is a reservoir for bacteria which are then sprayed the opening of the water right on our face. Published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, is the discovery of the team of Norman Pace the University of Colorado at Denver.
Experts have analyzed the onions that are used to spray the jet of water in the showers of dwellings of nine U.S. cities including New York, Chicago and Denver. They found that in at least 30% of them is a microfilm of bacteria. In particular, there are colonies of the bacterium Mycobacterium avium lung infections especially giving to those who are immunologically weak (elderly, sick etc), and close "relatives" of this pathogen. Many bacteria harbored in the running water of course but experts have seen that their concentration on the surface of the shower is 100 times greater than the water itself. Already
in a past study, researchers had "pointed the finger" against the curtains that serve not to shoot out of the shower, and since they are a reservoir for germs, in fact, where traces of bubble bath you go to nest many bacteria. The new research, led by molecular biology techniques using the DNA isolation and multiplication of bacteria found, only confirms that in unexpected places generally considered clean nest possible harmful agents.
The hypothesis put forward by the experts is that the increase of pulmonary infection that is found to be even more widespread due to habit, lack of time accomplice and hectic life, to take a shower at the expense of relaxing hot bath.
